It says on my profile that I need to respond to a notification, but when I click on the thing that needs addressing (in this case approving a job application), it doesn't change.

You want tell to badge in 'Applications' menu ? I have check on my localhost, it's lose when i 'Approve' or 'Reject' the application, please kindly check again or tell for me action you use but it not lose.

Dear, i check your site i see that problem because job 'History Teacher' not is of 'Director' company, maybe you create job 'History Teacher' in admin and not select company of 'Director', Now please go to edit job 'History Teacher' and select company of 'Director' and check again.
