Dear, that problem because you use image for blog not same size, the recent news use image size 400x300 but you upload image have size less size use in recent news shortcode, please check again.

Dear, the theme use image size 400x300 in recent news, if you upload image have with > 400 and height >300, it will auto resize to 400x300, I don't understand what is your problem with image size ?

Dear. You need use image have width > 400px and height > 300px and the WordPress will auto generate thumbnail. Please change image of your blog and check recent news on homepage again
