Hello there,
I haven't yet updated my website to your newest update (June 2, 2019).
Because I did a lot of customization to my website, do I need to create a special back-up before updating? Please let me know your proposal for how I should save it as I am new to blogging and want to be sure that I do it correctly. Do I have to save it to my laptop hard drive? My Bluehost c-panel?
Thank you,
Kasia

Thanks for contacting us.
There 2 ways to update our theme without losing your customization files:
1. Use Child Theme then write all your customization files to it. In our package, we also provided you a blank child theme so you can use it and try to google it and understand.
2. Backup all your customization files to a folder of your computer then override again after updating successfully.
Please check, then feedback us.
Best Regards,
NooTheme
5 years, 5 months ago #1075697Thank you for your reply. I think I prefer #2. Do you have any detailed instructions on how to do this?
(For example: Where do I find my customization files? How do I save them? How to I override again?)
Sincerely,
Kasia

Thanks for your feedback.
For solution 2: you can copy the files which you have changed in it to your computer then upload it again when updating successfully.
However, we also highly recommended you to install a Child Theme then learn how to use it, it is very convenient for you when updating our theme. In our package, we also included a blank child theme so you can install it and use it.

If you cannot do it, we can help you install a child theme and update the newest version with an extra fee.
Please consider then feedback us.
Thank you.

5 years, 4 months ago #1076811Hello Tracy,
I have done a lot of research, and now have your blank child theme installed. I copied the header, style.css, functions.php, and functions-custom.php files FROM the parent TO the child in my File Manager. I also updated the theme, and everything looks fine (I think).
Question: In Appearance > Themes, it shows Job Monster twice - but I don't know if the one I am using is the child or the parent. I called my hosting provider, and they also don't know which one I'm using. Please check and let me know.
Sincerely,
Kasia

Thanks for your feedback.
We checked your website then realized that you haven't used the Child Theme yet. You only use the parent theme, please see this image: https://prnt.sc/odef5a
It seems that you deactivated the older version but you didn't delete it. After that, you install the newest version and activate it. That's the reason why you have 2 versions of jobmonster on your site.
In this case, please click to the older version of Jobmonster then delete it. You can see this image: https://prnt.sc/odeg7j
Please check, then feedback us.
Thanks.

Thank for your feedback.
You should still use the child theme when customizing the code. This will help you easily update the new version later.

4 years, 7 months ago #1093048Hello,
Thank you for your speedy response! I looked through your knowledge base and referred to this article (https://www.hostinger.com/tutorials/how-to-create-wordpress-child-theme) but it is extremely difficult to find advice on how to create a child theme after I've already done the customization...
Please find my screenshot of the "broken theme" message I now have.
Kindly advise - thank you!

Child Theme is included in the package you downloaded from Themeforest
You unzip this package -> Theme File folder -> noo-jobmonster-child.zip
You install this .zip file and activate it.
Best regards,

4 years, 7 months ago #1094767Hello! Thank you for your speedy reply ♫
I did as requested (see attached screenshot), but now have two issues/questions.
1) When I went to preview the Child Theme before activating, I saw that many of my changes didn't apply in the child theme. Examples: my main color is purple but shows up as yellow in the call-to-action buttons, headers of all pages look different, etc. Do I have to copy my Parent Theme style.css file and copy it into the Child Theme? Or do I have to just make the changes/customization manually again?
2) My BIGGEST concern is that my users will be affected. By switching to my Child Theme, will my users experience any problems (i.e. lost data, trouble with passwords, error messages sent, anything...!)?? Please help.
Thank you, as always, for your great advice. I'm loving your job board theme, and hope to keep using it!
Kasia

4 years, 7 months ago #1096419Sorry for the delayed reply.
I helped you activate the Child Theme.
Active Child Theme lln't affect the database.
